Remember that any question is a good question and Mrs. These may relate to program content, instructional approaches or human development. In order to fully address any questions and concerns, we ask that you take a moment to consider any issues that you may have about the program. Please note, however, that we strongly recommend that you reserve your decision until after the presentation. If we do not get a response from you, your child will be included in the program. If you decide that you do not want your child to participate in this program, please sign and return the form as soon as possible, but no later than March 5 th. You have the option of excluding your child from the program. She has demonstrated a remarkable ability to relate to students and we know that our 5 th grade students will benefit from her expertise. Augello has developed, and is currently teaching grades one through eighth health programs. Her experience includes teaching health and family living at the elementary and middle school level. Theresa Augello, a fully certified health teacher, has earned her second MasterвЂ™s degree in Health education at Adelphi University and is actively involved in regional health awareness programs. Although concentration will be on physical growth and human development, topics such as teasing, self-acceptance, respecting differences in others, peer pressure and communicating more comfortably and openly with parents will also be discussed. AugelloвЂ™s program will offer your child an important chance to talk about the many facts, feelings, changes, pressures and concerns that are a part of growing up. There will be ample opportunity to discuss any questions that you might have related to the program. Additionally, she will also help you become more aware of feelings and concerns that children often keep secret, even when parents and children are close.

Augello will discuss how to be sensitive to what your child will learn and how you might effectively follow-up the school program at home. We are pleased to announce that we will be conducting a program entitled GROWING UP HEALTHY, GROWING UP SMART for boys and girls in the 5 th grade. вЂњCircus skills gives every child the opportunity to succeed at a physical activity and experience physical self-expression,вЂќ said Rich Potter of the National Circus Project. The National Circus Project is an innovative cultural arts organization that promotes student participation in physical education and other content areas using вЂњcircusвЂќ as its theme. Under the direction of circus performers and instructors Keith Leaf and Rich Potter, students throughout the schoolВ had the opportunity to learn different circus skills.В Fifth graders picked what act appealed to them the most and practiced their routines during their physical education classes in preparation for the big show at the end of the week.

Sponsored by the PTA, the National Circus Project visited the school for a week- long residency where they worked with students on skills such as balancing, juggling, plate spinning, stilts and more. 18 in front of their teachers and peersВ with the help of the National Circus Project. вЂњHopefully it gave them valuable insight into the terrible impact bullying has on victims,вЂќ Hoffman said.ДЄfter hearing RyanвЂ™s Story, the hope is that students will be inspired to make positive changes towards reducing bullying, cyberbullying and preventing teen suicides and encouraging bystanders to speak up and use their voices to stop others from getting bullied at school or online.ДЇifth grade students at Island ParkвЂ™s Lincoln Orens Middle School performed circus acts on Feb. Principal Bruce Hoffman said he was pleased his students had an opportunity to meet John Halligan and hear the presentation firsthand. RyanвЂ™s dad told the seventh and eighth grade audience that he hoped they would вЂњthink differently about the issue of bullying and how we treat each otherвЂќ after hearing RyanвЂ™s story. At the time of his death, Ryan was a middle school student who had been bullied by peers at school and online.ДЄs part of the hour-long presentation, Halligan spoke about the devastation of losing his son and the days that followed. Island Park middle school students had an opportunity hear about the life and death of Ryan Patrick Halligan when his father, John Halligan, visited the school in February.В Halligan lost his 13-year-old son, Ryan, to suicide in 2003.
